A full design suite for the animal-advocacy movement's research library - over 100 pages of concepts, built to make dense content easier to reach.
Faunalytics' mission is to give animal advocates access to research, analysis and strategy that helps reduce animal suffering - an online research library plus direct support for advocates and organisations. The previous site was very text-heavy, so the brief was to introduce far more imagery and structure without losing the depth of the underlying content.
Beyond a handful of pre-existing high-resolution assets, there were no client-provided images, so stock photography needed a treatment that made it feel like one consistent voice rather than a grab-bag. Removing backgrounds from header and key imagery gave the animals themselves the focus, and let the same images be reused and overlapped across the site as a cohesive series rather than isolated stock shots.
A full suite of custom duotone icons, matched to the palette of the Faunalytics bird mascot, runs across navigation, category tags and landing panels - important because a lot of pre-existing animated data visualisations couldn't be restyled, so the new icon system had to make them feel part of the same design language regardless.
Blog articles and original research reports are the core of what Faunalytics offers, so a lot of attention went into the reading experience specifically: better hierarchy and flow through long articles, a PDF download option, the ability to save an article to a personal library, a reading-progress bar, and an estimated reading time up front - small features aimed squarely at keeping people reading.
